Ina Sarcevic (U of AZ) neutrinos at high E

  • Known nu's: CNB, solar nu's, SN 1987A, atm nu's, extragalactic nu's

  • UHECN's: ~1e21 eV

  • Sources: Cosmogenic or GZK nu's, AGN, GRB's

  • Mkn 421 at z = .003 was the first AGN seen by Whipple at TeV gamma rays

  • If the production isn't 1:2:0 then there isn't a 1:1:1 for e:mu:tau seen on the Earth eventually..? i don't get how this works with maximal mixing

  • Expts: look at muon tracks, and some look at em and hadronic showers.

  • nu_tau have the regeneration effect. the effect depends on the angle of incidence quite a bit.

  • XD, and much else...

Jim Linneman (MSU) on DZero results

(From Mich. State Univ)

  • B_s --> J/psi phi -- not fitting the SM well, prob. is 6% of being SM. hint of new fizz..?

  • Direct CPV in B+- --> J/psi K

  • H events: looking for 1 in 1e12 events..!

  • Acoplanarity in qq -> Z* -> ZH is from no spin coupling between the Z and H

  • One plot shows the curve at 160 GeV nearly meeting the 2 sigma bar, with 2.4ifb collected -- 2 more ifb is in the can, so once that's done, the limit will at 160 go *below* the SM 2 sigma line.. kind of cool, i didn't realize how close they are to limits. they really have a real chance at this, the next 2 years..!

  • Exotic searches: stops, etc.

  • XD

  • Push for making the data more usable for others outside expt, discussion a bit of Bruce Knuteson's work -- about 10 people used it, 5 within D0.

Tommaso Dorigo (Padova/INFN) on CDF results

CDF roundup:

-- 1GeV uncert. on m_t carries same info for M_H as 7MeV uncert. on M_W.

-- Current m_t is 172 GeV +- 2, 1.1%. seems pretty stable now. it's moved around, but it was found in 1994 at 174 GeV, so it hasn't really changed all that much!

-- Vtb = .88 +- 0.14

-- Single top: close to seeing it at 5sigma.

-- B Physics: B_s mixing, baryons, lifetime meast competitive with B factories

-- Example: Xi_b

-- Search for B_s --> mu mu. BTSM can increase the SM 4e-9 prediction by 3 orders. current limit: 5e-8

-- Exotic searches: charginos, squarks, gluinos -- none seen yet

-- EW standard candles: world avg M_w = 80.398 +- .025 -- .02% precision.

-- W asym measts: very useful for pinning down pdf's

-- WZ production

-- ZZ production - will be impt for Higgs signals at LHC.

-- Higgs search: currently they are at 1.58*SM at 160GeV. The SM prediction now is 95% CL below 160 GeV, and with 8ifb they can rule out at 160 GeV at 95% CL. depending on its mass, it decays in various ways and thus the limits vary depending on the the Higgs mass.

-- Yes, if no evidence is seen in the next 2 yrs, there will be tension with Susy also since the lightest Higgs should be at a low mass.

Exciting times!

Restarting this blog -- posting talks from PPC2008 at UNM

Inspired by Tommaso Dorigo's well-done blog to begin my blog on popular and technical science issues, and open it up to the public, now..!
